Job Overview

The Pharmacy Technician will support the efficient and safe management of medicines and medical supplies at Kasese Health Centre. The role involves dispensing medications, maintaining accurate inventory records, ensuring proper storage and handling of pharmaceuticals, and supporting quality healthcare delivery in a rural setting.

Reports To: Kasese Health Centre Manager

Key Responsibilities

Supervise drug and medical material orders to ensure efficient use of funds
Coordinate receipt of international and local drug orders
Dispense medications according to clinician prescriptions
Advise patients on drug usage, interactions, side effects, and storage requirements
Review and interpret clinician orders and identify therapeutic incompatibilities
Monitor drug stock levels and place orders when required
Maintain records for controlled drugs and remove expired or damaged stock
Support clinicians and nurses with drug therapy information
Prepack drugs for dispensing
Record data in relevant registers
Use Electronic Health Records (EHR) systems for dispensing, requisition, and inventory management
Organize monthly drug therapeutic committee meetings
Ensure proper storage and cleanliness of the pharmacy
Supervise pharmacy assistants and support staff
Conduct monthly ordering of drugs from the District Health Office
Prepare and submit monthly reports
Perform any other duties assigned by the supervisor

Qualifications and Experience

Diploma in Pharmacy from a recognized institution
Minimum of 2 years’ relevant work experience
Registered with the Pharmacy and Medicines Regulatory Authority
Practical knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel
Knowledge of Electronic Health Records (EHR) systems is an added advantage
Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
Willingness to work in remote rural settings
Good understanding of health issues affecting rural communities in Malawi
Strong interpersonal and communication skills
Team player with a proactive attitude
